Use of Government Laptop Computers

Physical Care of Laptops

Assignees must ensure that the laptop is:

a.       Never left in vehicles or in open offices unattended for any period of time;

b.      Not exposed to water, excessive heat or other hazards

c.      Not loaned to any person

d.      Used only for the performance of official duties

Repairs to laptops

a)       Laptop assignees must not without prior authorization give the laptop out for repairs or to do the repairs themselves

b)      The terms and condition of the warranty on laptops must be noted, taken advantage of and not jeopardized by conducting unauthorized repairs or through improper use.

c)      CMS will ensure that servicing/maintenance is done on all assigned laptops at least once every three (3) months.  A log will be maintained in this regard.

 

Licenced Software

a)       Laptops must be loaded only with licensed software thereby preventing the Government from being in breach of local and international copyright Acts.

Loss or Damage to Laptops

a)       Loss or damage to laptop must be promptly reported to the Director of ICT in the Court Management Services in writing.  The report must include the following:

a.       Serial number of the laptop’

b.      Date of loss or damage

c.      Whether the loss or damage was due to negligence on the part of the laptop’s assignee

d.      The action which is recommended to be taken in respect of loss or damage.

e.      Where a laptop is stolen, a formal report should be made through the PEO’s office to the Police forthwith.
